Imagine you are stepping out onto the road and a cyclist or car suddenly appears in front of you. You need to have the balance and power to step back quickly to avoid a collision and this great little exercise will help with exactly this situation.
How To Do the Clockface Lunge
Imagine you are standing in the middle of a clock face. Take a step forward with your right foot to 12 o’clock then return to the centre. Repeat for 3 o’clock, 9 o’clock and 6 o’clock returning to the centre each time. Repeat leading with your left leg.
Focus on stepping out with as big a step as you are comfortable with and returning to the centre with a strong push off.
Repeat this 4 times on each leg. Rest and repeat.
Lifestyle Tip: Cheers for cheese
Good news for cheese lovers! The protein and calcium it contains makes it an ideal snack food for the older adult. Try replacing the sweet biscuit you normally have with your tea or coffee with cheese – with or without a cracker, celery or apple. The hard cheeses like Edam or Swiss have the lowest fat but if you don’t have any cholesterol issues feel free to choose blue vein, tasty or colby. A suitable serving is about a match box sized portion.

I would love to know some more exercises to help with balance. I am nearly 83 but very healthy doing Pilates and Silver Swan ballet. I swim each day but need balance exercises.
