Gil C. has given us a quicker answer to this puzzle. Thank you!
Add the two middle equations: L + Z – 2G = 7
From 1: 13 – 2G = 7
2G = 6
G = 3

What was the self-talk through this puzzle?
What do we know?
Leopard plus the Zebra = 13
Zebra minus giraffe = 5 (so the zebra is more than the giraffe)
Leopard minus the giraffe = 2. (so the leopard is more than the giraffe)
Leopard plus the Zebra = 13 so the giraffe must be a smaller number that the Leopard and the Zebra.
Let’s try 2 – does that work? If we take 2 away from the zebra, it has to equal 5. Can we make the zebra 3 in the first row? Leopard + 3 = 13? that would make the leopard 10.
But we know that Leopard minus the giraffe = 2. So the Leopard being 10 doesn’t work because that would make the giraffe 8.
Let’s try the giraffe being 3.
And see if you can follow along after that.
Have fun!
